Suction sucks

Postby shawnprobertson on Mon Aug 10, 2009 10:51 am

I recently purchased a second hand Liberty Mosquito Magnet. The gas ignition part works fine and mosquitoes are definitely attracted to it, but the catch is pathetic. With the number of mosquitoes flying around the trap it should be catching hundreds per night instead of the paltry 20 or so that it catches.

I noticed that the suction into the trap was extremely weak. The fan is running and I can feel the exhaust coming out fairly strong, but mosquitoes easily fly by the "horn" without getting sucked up. I have 100% Asian tiger mosquitoes (Aedes albopictus), so I don't use the Octenol, but the CO2 is clearly attracting them. I thought it might be a sealing problem with the net compartment, but even when I hold it down tight the suction is weak. Is this standard or is something seriously wrong with my trap? I am happy for any tips fellow users can supply.

I had the same problem. Just cleaned a ton of dead bugs and crud from the filter on the right side facing the trumpet. took off the net/door and vacuumed the inside. Too soon to tell whether it will completely solve the problem, but my suction had been good until recently with large catches, and not much lately. I'll try to remember to follow this up in a couple of days,
