Older Commercial Pro Model

Postby 633 Squadron on Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:18 pm

Hi All:

I have an older Commercial Pro (1000MM), manufactured 2003. It has no battery etc, etc.

It starts up fine, fans running, but the temp guage never gets out of the yellow zone. Almost... but not quite. Needle stops right at the "p" in warm-up.

Should I be concerned? I'm still trying to locate the best location for the unit on my property, and as such don't feel that I have a good baseline for "catches".

Thoughts ???????

After rebuilding two Freedom models (2000MM) recently I can add the following comments.
These are older units that have no circuit boards but not such a bad thing for simplicity.
I don't have the guage on my model but two thngs come to mind.

1) the OPD valve safety shutdown can sometimes allow a small amount of gas. Perhaps that is a limited burn because of that limitation. Be sure to reset especially if it is a fresh fill. I find the valve is less sensitive on the tank partially used on my grill.

2) These units burn a small amount of gas, the oriface is really realy small and vulnerable to clog. A cleaning of that is a good thing to know. For me on one unit I bought had an ant nest remnant cloging up things. Not really a difficult repair, but compressed air is a help in insuring that things are clear after a mineral spirits soak. Easier to disconnect on the far end of the tube connecting the nosel.

One additional comment.
When working well you should feel a moderate warm flow from the bait tube, just grab the end of the tube for a moment and it should be obvious.
After my rebuild (2000MM) I have lots of mosquito motion in the net/window and 4 or 5 on the exterior when I inspect daily. They chase me on the way out of there !
See my expanded experience under 2000mm on this forum.

Goot luck and good catch !

Hi Mike & everyone:

Mike, thank you for your reply. I did reset the OPD as you suggested.

The nozzle of my MM is a piston like aluminum piece, which fits into the carb body. When cleaning (soaking) the nozzle are you removing the small filter? This is located where the gas line and purge valve lines connect to the carb.

There is also a screw which is used to adjust airflow (i believe) on the bottom of the carb. Anyone have any idea what a ball park initial setting is ???

One last question..:-) vDC for the fan(s) when the MM is warmed up and running???

Thank you

Can you please send me a pic of your piston like aluminum piece? My email address is begundrum@yahoo.com I took my pro model apart, cleaned the screens, and the oriface. I tried restarting it without the outside u-shaped metal cover on it, and I smelled propane leaking somewhere. What is with the hole on the side of the aluminum piece? That doesnt get plugged? Does thst mix the propane with air? Thank you. Bruce

HI 633,

The nozzle sounds similar in my 2000mm.
It has what looks like a stone filter held in by a c clip.
I didn't attempt to remove that. But did the cleaning soak in mineral spirits and finished with compressed air on it.
If you leave the connecting tube on the nosel you can force air through the other end of that tube and feel the stream out of the nosel.

This fixed a no startup situation for me but the warm flow out the tube doen't seem to be warm enough compared to the other freedom and liberty units that are working well. so we will see with some hours on it if that improves.

This unit I've turned into a corded unit as the TEC converters are combined < 5Vdc.

On the fully functional freedom they combine to like 14.4Vdc

Sorry for the delay in the reply.
Hope this helps.

Mike

One more addition to this,

The carb has 2 holes in it for air. There is an adjustment on one of those holes. An allen head screw is about half way covering this hole. The fully functioning unit I have had remnants of an ant nest in there, so the holes, 2 of them, are big enough for ants to get in there. I originally didn't notice this screw until pointed out here in thsi forum. I have done nothing with that screw.

The fully functional unit at home in MA had a good catch of just over 1/2 bag after the 1st tank change. Up here in NH the skeeters are not as bad so my catch has been almost nill.
So I don't know if I should want a big catch or not !!
