MM Defender Troubleshooting/Frustration

Postby mans442 on Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:32 am

I have a MM Defender.

I received the fast flashing code after 10-15 minutes.

Purged gas valve and nozzle with 3 CO2 cartridges - NO CHANGE.

Used Gas reset tool - NO CHANGE.

Obtained another tank of Propane - NO CHANGE.

Measured Ohms of T/C at room temp: 220 K Ohms. When heated with lighter: 10 K Ohms. VERIFIED T/C is GOOD.

Applied 12 VDC to Ignitor and watched it get Glowing RED hot. VERIFIED Ignitor is GOOD.

Applied 12 VDC to gas valve and heard it click open in the energized state and close in the De-energized state. VERIFIED GAS VALVE is GOOD.

I put is all back together and restarted the unit:

Ignitor became hot around 2:45 (min:sec) into the starting sequence.

The fan dropped to low speed, and I heard the gas valve click open.

I unplugged the fan and heard the hiss of gas flowing through the valve.

With the fan off, I can see and smell the products of combustion (smoke) lingering around the unit. I can begin to feel some warmth around body of the burner.

Soon after, I hear the gas valve close and the LED begins fast error code blinking.

This was repeated several times with the same result.

If anyone has any clues to assist further troubleshooting, I would be most grateful.

Thanks
jason

Try cleaning or replacing the nozzle.
